The Club’s Centenary Season kicks off in August with a first Team Squad Tour to South Africa. This is the first major tour undertaken by the Club in over 20 years. A 36 person squad, including management and coaches, Captained by Andy Cummiskey, is travelling to Cape Town on August 16th. While there they will be playing fixtures in Cape Town and Stellenbosch and they will be using the fortnight together to undertake a rigorous pre-season preparation so that they are primed for the season ahead.
This is a tremendous opportunity for this group of players, for which they are most grateful. While in South Africa, they will also take the opportunity to coach in the Townships thereby giving something back to the communities they are visiting.
Obviously this tour is a costly undertaking and the lads travelling will be fundraising energetically throughout the Summer. There are two particular areas where you can help:
Firstly, there is a Six Nations Wine Tasting Evening on Wednesday, June 30th at the Stillorgan Park Hotel from 6pm until 9.30pm hosted by “The Corkscrew” Admission is €20 and advance tickets are available from Rosemary. This event promises to be a superb night where over 50 wines will feature from France, Italy, Argentina, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The event is being kindly organised by Brian Crotty. Please support the event by ordering tickets from Rosemary. Invite your friends and family to the evening. You’ll enjoy the event and generate much needed funding for the Tour.
Secondly, the Tour Programme is being put together by First Team Manager, Kevin Kenny with the assistance of Rosemary. This is an initiative where the players raise funding from advertising in the programme. The programme will feature articles on past tours by John Leech (Florida Babes 1979) and by John Gardiner (Australia 1984).
