v Naas
UCD U20C 0 - 31 Naas
The conditions were good for rugby in forenaughts last Sunday as UCD took on the Naas under 20 B team. When we arrived we got straight down to business as the players were both eager and confident.
The first half went very well for UCD considering we were playing up the hill. We managed to keep the powerful Naas pack and flashy back line off our line for the first 35 minutes which was quite an achievement. To me it showed that this team is becoming more experienced and coordinating better as a team. We even created a few scoring opportunities as we became more confident.
Suddenly the Naas team became aware that half time was looming and that they were about to lose the advantage of the hill. They put together some great back line moves and scored two well taken tries before half time.
At half time we spoke about how Naas had a very small cushion of 12 points going into the second half and how we needed to chip away at the scoreboard and the result would come. All credit to Naas because they had an amazing ability to finish off tries from inside their own half. Their number 8 set up two tries by breaking blind off of scrums and setting off up the field.
In the end our lads were proud of themselves coming off the field and they look forward to regrouping in the new year for another crack of the whip.
A special note of thanks to Naas for providing refreshments after the game, UCD for providing transport, David Carrigy for organising the equipment and to the physios for making the trip down with us. Happy Christmas to those of you who read these articles and I look forward to keeping you updated in the new year.
