v DLSP
UCD U20C 10 - 10 DLSP
The game was played in Kilternan on a very windy day. UCD played to
the conditions very well in the first half. Forwards and backs alike
retained the ball very well in the first half, which was something we
had been working on a lot in training. Our discipline in the first
half was also very good in comparison to DLSP so we had a lot of
momentum.
After 20 minutes, Kevin McGettigan intercepted on the half way to
score a crucial try to the game, which he also converted himself.
Before the end of the half Kevin took a penalty from 30 yards out in
front of the post. That left the game at 10 ¬ 0 on half time with the
wind and hill still to come in the second half.
DLSP dug their heels in the second half and the game turned into a
reverse of the first half. Although, UCD backs combined well in the
second half and the forwards won plenty of set piece ball, our penalty
count was well above what we should have been giving away. Quickly
into the second half DLSP earned a penalty in front of our posts which
they converted.
In the last 10 minutes of the game, some well worked phases of play
resulted in a fine try from DLSPs winger in the corner. UCD started to
run out of steam and could not keep up with the new energy DLSP
brought into the game. The game ended in deadlock even though DLSP had
two chances with the boot in the dying minutes.
There were a lot of positives taken from the game and the boys are
looking forward to proving to themselves that they can play to a very
high level with a win over Guinness next Sunday in UCD.
