MCCORRY CUP SEMI FINAL
UCD 14 BLACKROCK 12
After a tense and exciting match in the UCD Bowl on Sunday UCD qualified for the McCorry Cup Final.
College opened the scoring with an Ian McKinley drop goal after four minutes. Early pressure from the home side lead to two penalty opportunities, which went narrowly wide. However a second McKinley drop goal and a fine try by outstanding forward Shane Grannell saw College take an 11-3 lead into the interval.
Playing with an ever freshening wind in the second half a resilient Blackrock side brought the score to 11-9 and a drop goal by Daragh Fitzpatrick put them 12-11 ahead with three minutes left. A great piece of play instigated by a break out from our own 22 by Terry Jones and John Conroy took play to the Blackrock line. Under pressure they conceded a penalty, which Ian McKinley rifled over from wide out to achieve the victory.
College will now play Lansdowne in the Final on Sunday next in Donnybrook.
Kick off 4 pm.
