Tour Blog

(22 Aug 2010)

After a productive training session in tough conditions we were spectators for the implosion of Cape Town's nuclear power plant. Unfortunately a tree impeded my view as I rushed up to higher ground to catch a glimpse!

A lot of the group went for the popular steak option in Spur restaurant on the Waterfront for lunch. A few of us branched off to sample some Thai cuisine which Ric (Risteard Byrne) described as 'a symphony of flavours.' McShaz (Dave McSharry) who was ko'd on the bus just about made it to the restaurant in time to grab a bite!

Ian, our tour guide/man on the ground gave us a tour of the significant monuments and sites of Cape Town on our way back to Cape Suites. We saw the new Cape Town stadium, Cape Castle, Parliament buildings and the colourful buildings of Cape Town's Islamic district (Bo'Kaap).

After dinner we had a team meeting to reiterate some of the key points discussed and practiced during training over the last week. We appeared focused and optimistic about the Western Cape University game which is kicking off at 16h tomorrow.
The team to face Western Cape University is:

15. Michael Twomey
14. John Conroy
13. Andy Cummiskey
12. Dave McSharry
11. Tom Fletcher
10. Niall Earls
9.  Rob Shanley
8.  Wesley Carter
7.  Richie Bent
6.  Michael Cawley
5.  Brian Cawley
4.  Shane Grannell
3.  John Anthony Lee
2.  Risteard Byrne
1.  Kieran Moloney

It is expected that players not in the 1st XV will play. An early night is in order before we make the hour journey up north to the rugby stronghold of Stellenbosch.
