1stXV v Trinity

(14 Nov 2008)

University College Dublin  18 - 20   Trinity College Dublin

UCD were edged out by their arch rivals as a late try from replacement John Byrne proved crucial for Dublin University to finish on a scoreline of 20-18 to win the 57th annual Colours match at Donnybrook on Friday night.

In the dying minutes of the match, John Byrne was set up by his fellow replacement Shane Hanratty for a late try which swung the Colours encounters in Trinity's favour.

Team Captain, Shane Young’s try earlier in the match kept it close and gave the big Donnybrook crowd something to shout about. Chris Jebb was on accurate form for Trinity and nicely made two penalties and a conversion.

For Captain, Michael Hastings UCD side, winger Vasily Artemiev and lock Brian Cawley helped themselves to tries. Centre Killian Lett kicked eight points in the form of two penalties and a conversion but it wasn’t enough on the night as again it waswinger Chris Jebb who knocked the vital conversion  through the posts to give Trinity that agonising win.

The last two Colours games had been won by UCD, with the two previous clashes producing a Trinity win and a draw.
